The new exhibition “The Frenkel Family, Industrialists”

The new exhibition presents the lives of two generations of the Frenkel family – the family of Chaim and Dora Frenkel and their son Jokob Frenkel with his family – in Šiauliai. It tells the story of the success of the family business whose success brought worldwide recognition to the name of Šiauliai, as well as the Frenkel’s role in the life of the Jewish community and their contributions to the city.

The museum narrative is enriched by the history of the Jews of Šiauliai, from their settlement in the city to the Holocaust. The exhibition reveals the Jewish community’s contribution to the city’s economic and social life, introduces the themes of culture, education, and Jewish religious traditions, and displays works of Litvak art.

The exhibition is displayed in the former Frenkel family house – one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau (Secession) architecture in Lithuania. In this historically authentic setting, stylized interiors of the manufacturers’ home have been recreated, revealing the lifestyle, traditions and values ​​of a wealthy, modern-minded Jewish family of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
