Today, photography accompanies us everywhere and always. Carelessly press a button, tap the screen and share on a social network - that's all it takes today and the world is flooded with billions of photographic images. It is even hard to imagine that just 180 and a little years ago this seemed impossible or too difficult for mankind. The path of photography to our daily life, to the freedom of photography as it is today, was extremely long and complicated. That is why the exhibition, which tells about the development of photography in Lithuania and the world, is called "Freedom for photography!".
Here, visitors can see the most valuable exhibits from the museum's collection, which includes more than 150,000 historical and artistic photographs and negatives, photographic production equipment, photographic prints, documents and other photography-related items. The exhibition is full of immersive sites - stylizations, reconstructions, virtual and experiential solutions.
The permanent exhibition has been open to visitors since 2023. on May 25, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Museum of Photography.
In the series of stories "Freedom for photography!" History from a closer view" we invite you to familiarize yourself with some of the exhibits presented in the exposition and their stories. The cycle is prepared according to the audio guide of the Museum of Photography exposition (author: V. Ulinskytė-Balzienė).
