Ancient people believed in the powers of nature and tried to replicate them in jewellery. After learning to work with metal, Lithuanians started making jewellery from it. The earliest metal ware found was made of brass, which was widely used to make jewellery throughout the Iron Age. The shape of the jewellery was changing, each region had something unique. During the session at the museum, we will try to recreate the jewellery of Baltic origin – sun-shaped pendants and rings.

The most important symbol of Easter – a decorated Easter egg – means the resurrection of nature, the emergence of life, the renewal of life, the birth of vegetation, and its flowering and fertility. We invite you to get acquainted with Easter traditions, customs, symbols and ornamentation as well as to learn to decorate eggs with hot wax. You need to bring a few hard-boiled eggs to the classes.

The participants of the tour are introduced with the life and activities of Chaim Frenkel and the history of the villa built by him. On the second floor of the villa there is an exposition “Provincial Manor”: the gallery of paintings by Western European authors of the 17^th–19^th century, the collection of portraits of kings of the 18^th–19^th century, the gallery of portraits of landlords of the 18^th–20^th century, the Library, Yellow and Green sitting-rooms, the Gallery of oriental art, the Dinning room. The exposition “Provincial town” established on the ground floor of the villa is reviewed: a stylized street, the restored showcase of the joint-stock company “Dubysa”, the shop of the Shapir brothers, the cinema “Kapitol”.

Manor fashion of the 18^th–19^th century is a world of beauty and elegance, where strange whims, practicality and norms of behaviour intertwine. In the exposition of Chaim Frenkel’s villa “Provincial manor”, an interesting story about children’s fashion and leisure games as well as the creation of a colourful fan await the little visitors of the museum. Older schoolchildren and adults will get acquainted with the development of European and Lithuanian costumes, intriguing secrets of flirting of the 18^th century, the silent language of fan, and the intricate, imaginative ways of tying scarves.

The history of footwear is like a novel full of discoveries and searches. How would you protect your feet from the hot sand of the desert? And in what kind of footwear you would wade through the snow? Come and find out the length of the nose of the shoe that caused jealousy for those around you, and who was the first to wear high-heeled shows. When did the first “real” pair of shoes appear? We invite you to become designers, create new styles and offer them to your friends and maybe even to city dwellers ... The education introduces the history of footwear, the texture of leather shoes and the sewing process. In the practical part, children “sew” shoes from separate parts fastened with “Velcro” tapes, learn how to measure the foot before starting work, draw the shoes of their dreams according to the selected pattern.

Who made the name of Šiauliai famous? Who is the man who started the business from a small leather workshop and expanded it to the largest leather factory in the entire Russian Empire? Break through the mystery and visit the museum. See, smell and touch the tanned animal leather. It has been used for human purposes since time immemorial. Footwear, clothes, horse equipment, household utensils and bags are just a small part of the possibilities by using leather. We invite you to Ch. Frenkel’s leather workshop to make a practical thing – a keychain. Decorate it with a branded Ch. Frenkel’s leather factory stamp or decorate with your own ornaments and drawings.

Bracelets are not only jewellery but also amulets with magical protective powers. Set on a person’s wrist, they can not only protect him from the evil eye but also give strength and energy. During the session, we will make bracelets from coloured leather strips, try to nail a rivet, punch a hole with a special punch, and fix studs to fasten the created bracelet. You will experience joy during the creative process and be proud that you have learnt a new craft. You will be able to wear your own handmade original item or present it to someone.

Wouldn’t it be great to decorate the Christmas tree with a unique, hand-made leather toy? Now it is possible! In the education “A toy for the Christmas Tree” we will work with real tools of a currier, wave hammers and punches, forge ornaments, glue colourful details. At the end of the education, we will be happy with the results of our work – handmade toys which will decorate the Christmas trees at home during the festive period.

Do you know what totems are? They are animals, less often plants, sometimes even things or natural phenomena that are considered to be ancestors and guardians of the tribe. It is believed that they are able to help and protect. And nowadays everyone wants to succeed, so we invite you to visit a leather workshop at Chaim Frenkel’s villa and choose, make and possess a leather totem animal – elephant, puppy or cat, with which you will be able to decorate a handbag, backpack, use as a keychain or a talisman.

In Chaim Frenkel’s leather workshop you can make not only a bracelet but also a pendant for a necklace. It is created on the basis of a modular principle – inserting a part into a part. Thus, this reminds a puzzle that is a pleasure to solve. Spatial thinking is also developed in education, because it is necessary to understand how to put details into each other. We invite you to create a beautiful thing and evoke thoughts.
